Understand what a vCard contains
A contact QR code embeds a copy of the details you entered. A compatible scanner or contacts app may offer to add that record to an address book; the person scanning decides whether to save it. Dotlane uses vCard 4.0. Check the result on the devices your contacts use, because contact previews and field handling can vary.
Choose a website when the details change often
If your role, phone number, or services change regularly, a website QR code can point to a profile page you maintain. Updating that page at its existing address does not rewrite the printed code, but it can change what visitors see. A static vCard cannot fetch updated contact fields after it has been printed. Compare the options in the static QR guide.
Keep the printed introduction readable
Your name and main contact method should still be readable without a scan. Give the code a short label such as “Scan to save my contact,” and keep its quiet zone clear of decorative lines. A small logo is optional, not a substitute for contrast. Use the PNG and SVG guide to choose a file your card designer can use without stretching or cropping it.
A quick check for this use case.
- The contact preview shows the correct name.
- The phone number includes a country code.
- The code is clear at the card’s actual size.
- Key contact details are also readable as text.
