QR code PNG or SVG: which should you download?
Choose a QR image format for websites, everyday sharing, and print layouts without losing the clear edges.
Choose PNG for everyday sharing
PNG is a fixed-size raster image that works in many websites, messaging apps, and document tools. Dotlane offers 256, 512, 1,024, and 2,048 pixel output. Choose enough pixels for the space where it will appear and avoid repeatedly resizing or recompressing the image.
Choose SVG for flexible layouts
SVG keeps the QR modules as vector shapes, which can stay sharp when a supported design or print application changes their size. If you added a logo, its normalized PNG is embedded inside the SVG; that logo remains a raster image. The file does not need to fetch the logo from a separate website.
Keep the square and its border
Do not crop the quiet zone, stretch the square into a rectangle, add a busy background, or overlay new artwork after downloading. Those changes can make a previously readable code difficult to recognize. Resize proportionally in your design application.
Match the output to your task
Use PNG when the destination app does not accept SVG or when you need a specific pixel dimension. Use SVG in a layout tool that supports it when you need flexible sizing. Sending an SVG to an app that flattens or previews it at low resolution can still produce a poor-looking result.
Check the finished placement
Image format alone cannot guarantee a scan. A long payload creates a denser code, and print quality, viewing distance, and lighting matter. Test the final downloaded file and a printed sample. Return to Edit details on the result page if you need a larger size or shorter content.
